BACKGROUND

Clarendon Independent School District is proud to announce that a bond election has been called for May 4, 2024. The bond election aims to address safety and security upgrades, renovations, and additions to aging facilities.

The current Vocational Ag Building and the Field House Concession/Restrooms building were built in 1961. Those structures have had minimal to no upgrades since constructed. A facility assessment was presented and then projects were prioritized by the board and administration based on the facility assessment findings.

If approved by the voters, the bond will be used to finance the construction of a new agricultural center as well as address safety concerns at the high school campus by funneling visitors through the front office.  Additionally, the program is slated to address general updates district wide with significant work done to address updates at the athletic stadium including bringing the facility into appropriate ADA compliance.

The district’s financial advisor has determined that there would be a $0.32 tax rate impact to finance $11.7 million in bonds. More information on the District’s website will be forthcoming, including a tax-impact calculator to help property owners see and understand how the bond will impact them.

Clarendon ISD encourages all eligible voters to participate in the upcoming bond election on May 4, 2024, and have their voices heard in shaping the future of the district. The deadline to register is Thursday, April 4. Early voting begins Monday, April 22, and runs through Tuesday, April 30.
